An avid fly-fisherman and storyteller\, David lives here in Lyme and is a member of the Dartmouth Class of ’79. He’ll give us a sneak peek at his new book\, Storied Waters\, too. \nHe will present his photos from the Second College Grant\, a 27\,000 acre reserve in northern New Hampshire owned by Dartmouth\, and will discuss the stories about their 25 years of annual fishing adventures. He’ll read short selections\, including excerpts from “An Eddy in Time” and “Wild Rivers\, Wild Trout” which tell the history of the Dartmouth Grant and explain the unique strain of wild brook trout that live in the Swift Diamond and Dead Diamond rivers.

Through her experiences growing up as the daughter of a dissatisfied young mother and raised predominantly by her grandmother on a farm thirty miles west of Wichita\, we are given a unique and essential look into the lives of poor and working class Americans living in the heartland. DESCRIPTION:“Making Sense of Visual Thinking” \nProfessor of Psychology Ming Meng explores the dynamic nature of how we process visual imagery.  Scientist Ming Meng and myself have had exciting conversations on the dynamic nature of vision.  Our interest has followed a particular emphasis on ideas of how we see color. On this night Ming and I will go public and would enjoy very much for you to join in. \nProf. Meng is a co-author of scientific articles such as “Artistic representations: Clues to efficient coding in human vision” and “Distinct effects of contrast and color on subjective rating of fearfulness”.  Prof. Meng is a former Lyme resident\, researcher and professor at Dartmouth College now returned to his native country of China.  He and his family are in residence in Lyme for three weeks later this month. \nIf prompted I can seek to have copies of several of Professor Meng’s articles available for reading at the Converse Free Library.
