Donations are always appreciated.\n\n\nConcert goers can expect programs with varied content that will include patriotic songs\, spirited marches\, wind band classics and a few forgotten gems that our music director Mark Nelson has unearthed from the band library’s extensive archive. \n\n\nThe heritage of town band concerts on “the village green” is one that dates back over 150 years in the United States. SUMMARY:Oak Hill Music Festival
DESCRIPTION:Oak Hill Music Festival returns for a second season with nine world-class musicians presenting three enthralling chamber music concerts.\nJoin us on July 16th for a free children’s concert presented in collaboration with Upper Valley Music Center.\nJuly 14th at 7pm\, First Congregational Church of Lebanon\n“Music of Exile”\nMusic of exile and diaspora. Hear music by Chiquinha Gonzaga\, one of the first pianists of Brazilian “choro” music\, alongside Mahler’s lovely Piano Quartet\, the only surviving chamber work from a composer who famously described himself as “thrice homeless”. Vignettes\, by pre-eminent 20th century African-American composer William Grant Still\, collects folk songs from the Americas. Walter Kaufmann’s String Quartet was written during his sojourn in Mumbai in the 1930s and ‘40s\, while he worked as director of music at the All India Radio after fleeing Nazi persecution. \nJuly 15th at 7pm\, Norwich Congregational Church\n“Chemistry”\nEnjoy music celebrating the chemistry between individuals\, between instruments\, and even some music by and for actual chemists. Alexander Borodin’s vivid and lyrical Second Quartet is one of the most beloved pieces in the string quartet repertoire—but in his day\, the composer was also a prominent scientist who made important contributions to organic chemistry. Engaging solo\, duo\, and trio music by Rachmaninov\, Ibert\, and Rebecca Clarke round out the program. \nJuly 16th at 2pm\, Children’s Concert with Upper Valley Music Center\, Kilton Public Library\, West Lebanon \nClick here for more information and to purchase tickets

DESCRIPTION:Thetford Academy is excited to announce “Schoolhouse Rocks\,” a summer concert series on campus!\nFree\, family friendly\, and open to the public.\nThese three shows will be an opportunity to gather outside in a beautiful Thetford location with friends\, food\, and music! \nBYO picnic blankets and lawn games. There will be a food truck and pizza oven\, too! \nSunday\, June 25th at 6pm: Good Gravy\nHailing from Burlington\, VT\, members Joe Agnello\, Jeff Wilson\, and Jack Vignone pay homage to bluegrass legends such as Tony Rice\, Norman Blake\, and Doc Watson. You won’t want to miss this trio of gifted players! \nSaturday\, July 15th at 5pm: The Western Terrestrials\nConjuring up sweeping panoramas of dusty astral plains and the allure of whiskey-laden honky tonks\, Western Terrestrials are the kind of wry\, unconventional outsiders country music could get used to. Led by TA alum Nick Charyk ’04\, the Vermont-based group threads the needle between paying homage to classic country\, and forging their own brand of unapologetic\, hard-driving cosmic American music. \nThursday\, August 17th at 5pm: Lazer Dad\nJourney back to a time when the music was dope\, the girls were fly\, and the fashion was fresher than the Prince of Bel Air. This is LAZER DAD\, the tribute band that serves up a shot of nostalgia straight from the heart\, with the hits of the 1990s! Formed by six nerdy Nineties kids who grew up to be musicians\, LAZER DAD is a heat-seeking missile of fun that’ll blast you out of your seat and onto the dance floor.

SUMMARY:Hartford/Lebanon Juneteethn Celebration
DESCRIPTION:Hartford/Lebanon’s 4th Juneteenth Celebration will be held at Lyman Point Park\nThis year’s Celebration will mark the first time both Upper Valley towns of Hartford and Lebanon will collaborate to hold a single Juneteenth Celebration.\n \nFrom the press release: \n“Juneteenth is a chance to gather with our two Upper Valley communities\, celebrate our diversity\, and remember our history\,” said Hartford town treasurer and host Joe Major. “We reaffirm that we are stronger as a region because of our diversity. This year’s Juneteenth activities are designed to engage and educate\, as well as entertain\, because this holiday is a reminder that we cannot take freedom for granted. We look to the future with great hope and with a renewed commitment to pursuing justice. I urge our residents\, and visitors\, to join us for this year’s Juneteenth celebration and spend time learning more about this important national holiday.” \nThe event will focus on family\, history and education. There will be a number of children’s activities and speakers featured. This year’s theme is “Journey to Freedom\,” and will memorialize the struggle\, celebrate the successes\, and secure justice and equality through education\, art\, dance\, music. \nThe Hartford Committee on Racial Equity and Inclusion along with support from the City of Lebanon\, Alice Peck Day Hospital and the Hartford Parks and Recreation Department have come together to commemorate the 158th anniversary of the events of June 19\, 1865. On that day\, Union General Gordon Granger and 2\,000 federal troops arrived in Galveston\, Texas to take possession of the state and enforce the emancipation of its enslaved persons. The event today is known as Juneteenth and is celebrated widely across the United States. \nJuneteenth programming will include remarks by Vermont state representative Kevin “Coach” Christy\, the Executive Director of the Vermont Office of Racial Equity\, Xusana Davis\, and chair of the equity committee for the Vermont League of Cities and Town and Winooski city manager\, Elaine Wang\, among others. Both Hartford and Lebanon school systems will be represented with presentations from the two districts. Children’s activities will be offered all day. DJ Sean from Livemix Kings will be playing the tunes for the event. Food and other vendors will be on site for the celebration. The event will be televised by Junction Arts and Media. \n“This is an opportunity for all of the Upper Valley to come together and commemorate the true end of slavery in this country. The event will be family friendly with educational opportunities and inspirational presentations from individuals in our communities\,” said Co-Event Organizer and DEI Coordinator for Alice Peck Day Memorial Hospital Alisha Robinson. “This is a must attend program for every community member\, that will provide opportunity for increased knowledge\, allyship and provide increased visibility and recognition of Juneteenth.”

SUMMARY:Utica – The Last Refuge: Film & Discussion
DESCRIPTION:Join 3CVT\, TRORC\, GMEDC\, SHARe\, Vital Communities\, and regional partners for a pre-screening community potluck\, film\, and post-film panel discussion on “Utica: The Last Refuge”.\nThis film is about immigration and inclusivity\, how refugees positively impact local economies\, and all the struggles they face. It directly relates to opportunities in the Upper Valley to be more welcoming and inclusive\, through housing\, childcare\, transportation\, food access\, and more.\nThis event is free and open to the public. \nGuests are welcome to attend all or parts of the event. All parts of this event are located in White River Junction\, VT. \nSchedule: \n5:30pm – Community Potluck – Location TBD \n6:30pm – “Utica: The Last Refuge” Film Screening – Briggs Opera House \n8:45pm – Post-film Discussion Panel – Briggs Opera House \n \n–\nAbout The Film \n“Utica: The Last Refuge tells the story of how a struggling rustbelt city has rebounded via the major contribution of its refugee population. Given that there are 25 million refugees globally\, fewer than 1% of whom are likely to be resettled by current standards\, there is a lot to be learned from Utica’s example. \nWe know that resettling refugees is one way we can fulfill our humanitarian obligations. If it can be shown that doing so benefits the communities in which they land\, which is well supported by data\, ramping the program up makes great sense.” \nLearn more at https://www.lastrefugedocumentary.com/the-film/the-film \nWe strive to host inclusive\, accessible events that enable all individuals to engage fully. To request an accommodation or for inquiries about accessibility\, please contact masbury@trorc.org.
