SUMMARY:ONLINE EVENT: Pocket Song Singers with Patricia Norton
DESCRIPTION:Pocket Song Singers: Online via Zoom\n\nSundays 4-5 pm and/or Tuesday 10-11am      April 5-May 26\nSing songs with us taught in a way that works for online music-making! In this time of distancing and uncertainty\, many of us long for the comfort and hope of singing. Patricia Norton of UVMC’s Juneberry Choral Program is launching the Pocket Song Singers; online singing sessions open to the whole Upper Valley community. Sing short\, satisfying songs that are easy to learn aurally and work while singing alone or in a group. In the Zoom classes online you’ll be able to sing along with Patricia\, who will use looping\, call-and-response\, and movement to build a communal singing experience.  When we’re able to be in groups again\, UVMC will host a gathering of friends and neighbors to sing our new bank of pocket songs together. \nClass will meet online via Zoom. UVMC will send specific login instructions before the first class. \nParticipation by donation–we recognize that many are experiencing financial hardship at this time. Voluntary donations will support the work of the Upper Valley Music Center. \nCheck out the event website HERE for more information.

DESCRIPTION:Fairlee Community Arts’s free “COVID CONCERTS” — Every Friday Evening in May at 7 PM\nWith in-person events impractical at this time\, a generous contribution from an anonymous donor is making it possible for Fairlee Community Arts to bring some of the area’s favorite musicians into your homes while also providing these artists with some much needed income. \nEvery Friday evening in June\, from 7:00 to 7:30 PM\, visit https://www.fairleearts.org and tune in for a live-streamed concert that will lift your spirits and keep you in touch with the local music scene. \nJUNE’S “COVID CONCERTS” SCHEDULE:\nJune 5th at 7:00 PM: CLASSICOPIA with Daniel Weiser\, presents a program of great piano trios by women composers\, including Clara Schuman\, Fanny Mendelssohn\, and Louise Farrenc. Pianist and artistic director Weiser will be joined by his siblings Emmanual and Frances Borowsky on violin and cello\, respectively. This is the concert originally scheduled to take place live in Fairlee Town Hall Auditorium in May. \nJune 12th at 7:00 PM:  THE ROUGH AND TUMBLE. Bandmates Mallory Graham and Scott Tyler perform indie-folk on a wide variety of instruments\, both homemade and othermade\, with a verve that earned them The Listening Room Network’s 2019 Artist of the Year\, Southeast Regional Folk Alliance Official Showcase Artist in 2018\, and a nomination for Best Americana Song in the 2019 Independent Music Awards for their song “the Hardest Part.” \nJune 19th at 7:00 PM:  BOB AMOS of the popular Northeast Kingdom bluegrass band CATAMOUNT CROSSING will perform some of his award-winning folk and bluegrass songs accompanied by himself on guitar. As a nationally recognized writer of bluegrass and americana\, he writes in many other styles and idioms as well\, and his work has been performed and recorded by some of the country’s top bluegrass bands. He has also toured widely in the US and abroad with his daughter Sarah and band Catamount Crossing. \nJune 26th at 7:00 PM:  KALI STODDARD-IMARI\, Boston-based singer songwriter\, multi-instrumentalist and Looping Artist\, was born and raised in Vermont’s Northeast Kingdom. SUMMARY:ONLINE HOP@HOME EVENT: Live Living Room Concert: Rabbot Rabbit Radio
DESCRIPTION:Rabbit Rabbit Radio is the duo of Carla Kihlstedt (voice/violin) and Matthias Bossi (drums\, piano/keyboard\, voice). (You might remember Carla from her luminous Hop-commissioned composition Understory\, premiered last spring by the Brooklyn Youth Chorus in the Hood Museum of Art’s Russo Atrium!) Rendered on a motley assortment of instruments both old and new\, Rabbit Rabbit Radio’s songs draw on the couple’s shared love of art and folk songs\, industrial and improvised music\, and heart-wrenching balladry. They drop a new song on the first day of every month to their subscribers at RabbitRabbitRadio.Bandcamp.com \nIn this\, their first ever live-streamed concert\, Carla and Matthias will play a few of their old favorites\, and a couple of songs too new still to have names. They may even tap you for spontaneous lyric suggestions. (What else is a chat window good for?!) \nClick HERE for more information and a link to watch!

On each program\, a Vermont chorus is featured. You will hear Bella Voce\, Social Band\, the Handel Society\, Counterpoint\, the Oriana Singers and many other community groups. Vermont composers of choral music—Erik Nielsen\, Gwyneth Walker\, Don Jamison and others—are also highlighted. \nChoral singing is an important part of community life\, and a major part of our rich cultural life here in the Green Mountain State. About a quarter of all American households have at least one person singing in a choir—in Vermont that number is much larger\, with every region having at least one volunteer chorus\, and school programs strong in vocal music. \nListen to the VPR Choral Hour for information on the many choral activities\, auditions and concerts from our many groups in the listening area.

SUMMARY:Reckless Breakfast Concert – Benefit for Thetford Hill Church
DESCRIPTION:Bluegrass Benefit for First Congregational Church of Thetford Hill’s Historic Community Building\nConcert by the band Reckless Breakfast\, with special guests The Mansur Brothers\, followed by breakfast-themed snacks. Plan on a great night out [/in] and bring your friends and relations! And think about what “breakfast themed” finger food you could bring! Plan on a great night out [/in] and bring your friends and relations! And think about what “breakfast themed” finger food you could bring! \nReckless Breakfast gave us a spectacular show last March and we are delighted that they are helping us again. “Reckless” is the product of years of evolution in the Upper Valley Bluegrass scene. Their playful antics\, creative arrangements of many different genres into bluegrass and stock of classic\, flatpicking numbers are sure to delight any listener. Their simple harmonies and boisterous instrumentals have timeless appeal. \nJen Freise – fiddle\, Ford Daley – Dobro and Dave Lloyd\, guitar\, provide virtuosic instrumental leads\, while Rory Gawler’s vocals\, banjo or mandolin and Duff Cummings’ bass round out the sound. With Jen\, Laura Jean Binkley and Ford singing harmony\, the good-old fashioned string band sound is accessible to all. \nOpening will be Rivendell students “The Mansur Brothers” featuring Eli on fiddle and Owen on the bodhran. Eli has played fiddle since he was 7; he also plays with his band “Cows with Wings” and recently graduated from “Little Lumberjack” to “Lumberjack” on the Sunday menu. Owen has been playing bodhran for the last several years and after recent Irish immersion switched his breakfast preference from eggs to oats over easy. \n
