SUMMARY:LCC Bell Ringing in memory of 1619
DESCRIPTION:Bell Ringing August 25\, 2019 is the 400th anniversary of the first landing of enslaved Africans in English-occupied North America at Point Comfort in Hampton\, Virginia\, which is now part of the Fort Monroe National Monument. The anniversary will be commemorated at Fort Monroe as a day of healing and reconciliation. The National Park Service is inviting all 419 national parks\, as well as communities and the public across the nation\, to come together in solidarity to ring bells simultaneously for four minutes\, one for each century\, to honor the first Africans who landed in 1619 at Point Comfort and the 400 subsequent years of African American history. As part of this nationwide commemoration\, Lyme Congregational Church will be ringing its historic steeple bell. We will begin with the automatic tolling of the church bell at 3PM and continue to ring the bell by hand for the next four minutes. This symbolic gesture will enable our church and our community to participate in this historic moment to capture the spirit of healing and reconciliation while honoring the 400 years of African American history and culture.

DESCRIPTION:Ryan’s Run\nJune 1st\, 2019 will mark the seventh anniversary of Ryan Saunders’ passing. Each year since\, a growing group of family\, loved ones\, and supporters of the mission in his memory have come together for “Ryan’s Run” a fun rural 5k\, to honor and remember a beloved Son\, Brother and Friend. \nRyan lived a life full of excitement and adventure\, and considered ski racing\, above all else\, his ultimate passion. As a Lyme\, NH native\, Ryan grew up racing the slopes of the Dartmouth Skiway. It is here friends and loved ones feel his spirit the most and this is why the mountain’s base was chosen as the gathering point to run\, laugh and reminisce about Ryan. \nFunds raised from Ryan’s Run are used to support camp opportunities for local youth. Community partners the Aloha foundation\, the Family Place\, the Lyme School and the Upper Valley Haven have helped to support and identify kids for our Ryan’s Run Campership at Horizon’s Day Camp\, in hopes that the camp experience\, one Ryan cherished\, provides a fun and positive opportunity for kids to be kids and connect with themselves\, others and the great outdoors! \nTo register or for more information\, go to the registration link or Facebook event link.

DESCRIPTION:Spring Bird Walk along the Middle Brook\nGeorge Clark \, beloved ornithologist\, will lead the walk with co-leader Larry Morin. \nMeet at Elmwood Farm\, 3.3 miles up Middle Brook Rd from Lake Fairlee\, at 7:30 sharp. Good parking behind the barn. \nBring binoculars\, bug repellent\, and whatever you need for the weather\, which hopefully will be great. The walk will be along the field by the Middle Brook-an easy level distance\, to catch the most birds\, still arriving! Light refreshment afterward. \nDr Clark is a retired professor of ecology and evolutionary biology at UConn\, contributing writer to the Second Atlas of Breeding Birds of Vermont\, and past president of the Northeastern Bird Banding Association among many other accomplishments. \nRain date May 19th\, same time and place-So! if any last-minute questions\, or to check in if  the weather is ‘iffy’\,  please do call Peg Willey at  802-333-4155 between 6:30 and 7am that Saturday morning\,  May 21st (or anytime sooner is fine !).
