DESCRIPTION:Community Walk & Trail Opening \nNeal Loop\n\nFor the past two years\, we’ve been working on a project to build boardwalks over the swampy areas of the Neal Loop on the trails just behind town center. We are excited to announce that the boardwalks are complete! We invite any Lyme neighbors to join us for a family-friendly community event to walk the trail together on Sunday\, November 3rd. It’s mostly flat\, ~1.5 miles. We recommend good walking/hiking shoes and bright colors (it’s hunting season). Been planning a visit but just couldn’t seem to work it into your schedule? That can change. Come to an Open House gathering at The Chaffee this coming Sunday\, the 13th and enjoy its many charms. \nThe event begins at 1:30 pm. Members of Lyme’s Conservation Commission and the UVTA will be on hand to answer questions and show you around. DESCRIPTION:Lyme Community Power\n\nPublic Notice from the Community Power Coalition of NH\n\nWe’re excited about the launch of Lyme Community Power! Most of you recently received the Public Notice from the Community Power Coalition of NH (CPCNH) regarding the commencement of service of Lyme Community Power.\nPlease attend the information session being held next Thursday\, August 29th at 7pm in the Lyme School. Also\, please do not hesitate to reach out to one of us (see below) if you have questions about what you need to do as we transition to non-profit\, community-based electric supply.\nThe bottom line is that most of you don’t have to do anything! Eversource and NHEC customers will be AUTOMATICALLY enrolled in Lyme Community Power and will begin saving money in October. (See the exceptions below.)\nThis program is not mandatory of course. You have the option to OPT-OUT of the program by following the instructions on the mailing.\nMore importantly\, you have the option to OPT-UP TO GREENER POWER. Everyone will be automatically enrolled in “Granite Basic” electrical supply\, currently at $0.086/kWh. But opting-up to “Granite Plus” or “Clean 50” will still save you money over the Eversource rate while using a greater percentage of electrical supply from renewable sources. WE HIGHLY ENCOURAGE YOU TO OPT-UP to the level of renewable power that fits with your ability to pay. Remember that the cost of the energy we use is not only in dollars. As a community we’re dedicated to 100% reliance on clean\, renewable sources of electricity by 2030\, as voted at Town Meeting back in 2020. Please Opt-up by visiting the portal on the website.\n\nOK. The exceptions to automatic enrollment:\n\nIf you have already engaged a competitive supplier other than your utility\, you will not be automatically enrolled. You will need to request enrollment using the portal on the website or by calling 866-603-7697.\nLyme Community Power does not currently support net metering\, so if you have solar panels and are receiving energy credits through net metering\, we don’t want to automatically enroll you. Unfortunately\, Eversource and NHEC have not been consistent with providing customer information to CPCNH regarding which customers are receiving net metering energy credits. Net metered customers should contact CPCNH (1-866-603-7697) to verify that they won’t be automatically enrolled. Join us for light refreshments among our many container pots & gardens while we chat about what can evolve at our peaceful and beautiful but challenging garden site. \nIn 2022 we moved into this geothermal solar-powered house which was built in 2017 on the site of HGC Member Eva Templeton’s former home. Many thanks to Eva & Stuart for leaving us such wonderful stewardship karma! Our land is almost 30 acres of mixed forest\, meadow and cultivated gardens in need of restoration\, and we’ve been taking our time observing the site conditions while gardening in pots and planters. It’s quite dry and windy with sandy soil and lots of ledge. We are planning major planting work upon completion of upcoming building renovations and hardscaping\, and we welcome your ideas and suggestions – we’ll leave out a notebook for your thoughts. \nWe are particularly interested in broad scale naturalistic native plant restoration\, and are inspired by the work of designers Kelly Norris and Piet Oudolf.  And we have so many nesting birds here thanks to the inspiration of entomologist Doug Tallamy\, and like for so many others deer are an issue with understory succession in our woodlands. Our perspective has shifted over the last few years from focusing on beauty to gardening more for nature\, and we are reducing the amount of cultivated lawn that suffers on this dry hillside. Currently we are concentrating on restoring a few small areas that won’t be impacted by future construction with native shrubs and perennials\, and on removing invasive plants. Please come and enjoy! \nDirections: From Lyme to 82 Lords Hill Lane in Etna: Take NH 10 South 3 miles and turn left turn onto Goose Pond Road\, then half a mile later take a slight right onto Rennie Road. At 1.3 miles turn right onto Hanover Center Road\, then at 2.6 miles turn right onto Lords Hill Lane – we are at the very end. It helps some folks to know Lords Hill Lane is located between the upper and lower portions of Dogford Road off of Hanover Center Road. \nParking: For those who need accessibility\, park in front of both the barn & house garage doors (pulling straight in) or around the driveway circle on the mown side. Lots of additional parking is on Lord’s Hill Lane all along the right side of the driveway – come to the top and around the circle to park facing down the hill.
