School in Wells River. \nThe trail system over all is in really good shape. We need a good turnout of volunteers to get the trail system ready for summer hikers. If we can get your help\, this trail system will be in good shape for years to come. VOLUNTEERS needed to help with Trails Day Work Day\, a good turnout is what makes these trail happen. \nThrough the Wells River Nature Trails we hope to stimulate interest in the thoughtful stewardship of our Natural\, Recreational\, Educational\, and Economic resource for the people of our community.

DESCRIPTION:Paddle the Border Spring Sunday May 22 \nThe Paddle The Border (PTB) event was started as a way for community organizations from Vermont and New Hampshire to work together to ” Show Case” our shared asset\, the Connecticut River. The event is sponsored by The Newbury Conservation Commission-NCC\, Haverhill Recreation Commission-HRC\, and Lower Cohase Chamber of Commerce\, with support from Upper Valley Land Trust.\nThe Paddle is held twice a year weather permitting-no rain dates are planned. \nThe Spring Paddle 2022 date is May 22. The Spring Paddle goes from Woodsville Community Field in Woodsville\, to the Bedell Bridge State Park Boat Launch off Route 10\, Haverhill Corner\, NH \nThere is a shuttle service from the take out\, to the launch sight. This Shuttle Service has been providing by Butler Bus Company (we thank them).The Shuttle Service is available from 10am to 11am; This gives us a suggested launch time of 10:30 to 11:30am. The Snowmobile club replaced the bridge in November of 2019 and a celebratory opening day was planned for Spring 2020. Due to the pandemic\, that celebration has been postponed until now! \n\n\nJoin us for a hike through Lyme Hill and a celebration at the bridge including light refreshments! \n\n\nHike: 12pm meet at the Lyme Hill Conservation Area parking lot on Route 10. Hike with us over Lyme Hill to the new bridge where the celebration will be held! New commemorative bridge signs will be displayed. \n\n\nCelebration: at 1pm join us for refreshments and viewing the new bridge signs at the Grant Brook Bridge on the Lower Grant Brook Trail. LaDuke specializes in rural development\, sustainable economics\, food and energy sovereignty and environmental justice. She is also an international thought leader and lecturer in climate justice\, renewable energy\, and environmental justice\, plus an advocate for protecting Indigenous plants and heritage foods from patenting and genetic engineering. Living and working on the White Earth reservation in northern Minnesota\, she leads several organizations including Honor the Earth (co-founded with The Indigo Girls 28 years ago)\, Anishinaabe Agriculture Institute\, Akiing\, and Winona’s Hemp. These organizations develop and model cultural-based sustainable development strategies utilizing renewable energy and sustainable food systems. \nHer seven books include: The Militarization of Indian Country (2011); Recovering the Sacred: The Power of Naming and Claiming (2005); The non-fiction book All Our Relations: Native Struggles for Land and Life (1999\, South End Press); and a novel\, Last Standing Woman (1997\, Voyager Press). We will be joined by Bill Musson\, a Forester with Redstart Forestry and Ron Rhodes\, the Director of Restoration Programs with the Connecticut River Conservancy. Bill and Ron will provide us with the background information needed to plan a successful tree planting\, including species selection\, habitat selection\, sourcing stock and continual maintenance. This workshop will be followed by an in person\, hands on workshop on Saturday\, April 30th\, 9-12pm at the Ottauquechee River Trail. Registration for both is encouraged but not required. \nPresentation will take place over zoom with live closed captioning is available. Workshop is co-sponsored by the Upper Valley Trails Alliance\, Vermont Woodlands Association\, and Vermont Coverts.
