SUMMARY:NH Boys Soccer Championship in Nashua
DESCRIPTION:Hanover vs. Bedford\nAt Stellos Stadium in Nashua\nA note from Jay Davis:\nThis year’s Hanover High boys’ soccer team will be playing for the state championship\, with a foundation of seven (7!) Lyme boys.  Huge congratulations to Ryder Hayes\, Carter and Will Guerin\, Sean Smith\, Wyatt Seelig\, Henry Werner and Joseph Glass!\n\n\nThese athletes played together on the Lyme Rec and Lightning teams for years\, some of them since they were in kindergarten\, and they combine skill with an admirable level of sportsmanship and commitment to the team. (My favorite statistic in most sports is number of assists\, and Carter just set the all-time season record for Hanover.)\n\nBest of luck to these boys and their teammates on Friday  – go Lyme/Hanover! \n\n\n\nNew Hampshire Interscholastic Athletic Association

SUMMARY:An Informal History of Hanover High School with Bill Murphy - Zoom Lyme Library Program
DESCRIPTION:Thursday\, March 10\, 7pm\nAn Informal History of Hanover High School\, with Bill Murphy \n\nBill Murphy\, longtime Social Studies teacher at Hanover High\, has written (“compiled\,” in his words) “Did You Know…? An Informal History of Hanover High School.” He will present some of the highlights of this collection via Zoom. Spread the word and join us on March 10th! (We hope you’ll bring along some stories and memories yourselves\, too.) \nPlease register in advance for this event: https://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZUlc-uorzMrH9KdtMp_emedqoXt1XPO3YXL\n\nAfter registering\, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting. Information about how to purchase a copy of the book will be available on March 10th.\n \nICYMI\, here is Matt Brown’s email about Bill’s book (thanks\, Matt!):\n\nLast Saturday morning something cool and surprising walked into the gallery.  It was Bill Murphy\, long-time Lyme resident and well-admired Hanover High School history teacher\, carrying a spiral-bound newly-printed book: \n\nDid You Know? an Informal History of Hanover High School\, compiled by Bill Murphy.\n \nThe book is set up to be interactive: you can write in your own memories (if you are gifting your copy to a Hanover High alumni\, or anyone else\, a child who was student\, a grandmother who was a student\, a parent . . . ).\n\nIt begins with a section of 138 general Fun Facts\, such as Fact # 1: “Did you know that twice Hanover High School held the Guinness Book of World Records for leap-frogging?”\nThis is followed by a Fun Facts section about the physical building (77 facts).  A third section contains 89 facts about the staff\, such as\,\n “Did you know that Bill Murphy ran for President of the United States in the 2020 election and . . . received 447 votes.”\n\nThe last is a section of 92 facts about Hanover High Alumni\, including the following:\n“Did you know that Duncan Watson\, class of 1981\, was the voice of Charlie Brown between 1975 and 1977 when he spoke in ‘Be My Valentine\, You’re a Good Sport\, Charlie Brown\, and other films . . .’ and is now manager of the Keene Recycling Center which is a model for other communities.”\nMany of the fun facts already include notes\, such as Ford Dailey’s mention that Duncan’s family owned and operated (for a time) Lou’s Restaurant on Main St. in Hanover.\n\nBill left several copies for us to sell in the gallery\, and mentioned they will soon be available elsewhere\, including directly from himself and (did I get this right?) thru the Lyme Library.  It is not only loaded with interesting and fun stories\, it has pictures!  There are cool photos\, classroom layout maps\, a Mod Schedule sheet indicating the 26 mod periods that made up each school day back in 1971. Oy vey!\n\n\nPlease realize if you stop in to check out Did you Know (we are open today until 3 pm)\, you can also visit something totally different\, an exhibit of color woodblock prints by U. Kunisada featuring the famous kabuki actor\, “Bringing to Life Danjuro VIII”. These prints\, made in the 1850s\, are full of beautifully woodblock carved patterns and colors\, and contain lots of stories (five kabuki plays that we have researched) as well.
