SUMMARY:An Uncommon Look at Common Loons
DESCRIPTION:Common Loon Presentation in Lyme\nIan Clark shares his documentation of loons for almost a decade!\nFrom the Lyme Conservation Commission’s ListServ post: \nThe common loon is one northern New England’s iconic animal species. No view of a New Hampshire or Vermont woodland pond or lake is complete without a loon or two in it. \nFor nearly a decade\, wildlife photographer and Newbury\, VT resident Ian Clark has been documenting the lives of common loons. Each season from spring to fall\, Ian captures the daily activities of common loons parents as they raise their families\, share their space with other pond denizens\, like beaver and moose\, and defend their homes against unwanted intruders like bald eagles or territory seeking loons. All of this is captured against the scenic backdrop of woodland ponds. \nYou can experience this beauty\, drama and action for yourselves when Ian brings his celebrated talk “An Uncommon Look at Common Loons” to the Lyme School cafeteria on Thursday\, May 30 beginning at 7:00 pm. \nIt will be an entertaining\, informative and visually pleasing evening. \nAdmission is free. \nFor an advance look at Ian’s considerable artistic skill\, follow this link to his Blog: https://blog.ianclark.com/blog/ \nScroll down past Ian’s delightful montage on fox kits\, to find a few photos of some familiar Lyme residents setting out Post Pond’s floating loom platform a couple of weeks ago. \nCo-sponsored by the Lyme Conservation Commission and Friends of Post Pond.

SUMMARY:Upper Valley Voices Spring Concert
DESCRIPTION:“Darkness & Light”\nSaturday\, May 18\, at 7 pm: United Church of Strafford\nSunday\, May 19\, at 7 pm: First Congregational Church in Thetford\nPresented by the Upper Valley Voices (formerly the Thetford Chamber Singers) under the direction of Kevin Quigley and featuring accompanist Steven Ionov. \nFrom Henry Higgs email to the Lyme Listserv: \nWe’re presenting an evening of deeply moving music that addresses the darkness of our times and offers a call to manifest our own healing light. \nWe’ll sing in Czech\, English\, Estonian\, and German. Songs will be haunting\, touching\, and sometimes silly\, and feature a range of composers including Alice Parker\, Jacob Narverud\, Fanny Mendelssohn-Hensel\, Antonín Dvořák\, Paul Simon (arr. by our own Rebecca Wood)\, André Thomas\, Shawn Kirchner\, Rebecca Clarke\, Arvo Pärt\, Susan LaBarr\, Michael McGlynn\, and more.  The Paul Simon is an arrangement of ‘The Sound of Silence’ which is quite special.  The Estonian piece will be right at the end of the show and is also incredibly moving (our version is similar to this). \nTickets will be available at the door or online here. \nThank you and I hope to see you at one of our concerts!
