SUMMARY:Spiral of Light on Thetford Green
DESCRIPTION:An Advent ritual on the Thetford Town Green\nFirst Congregational Church of Thetford on Thetford Hill warmly invites you into a time of meditative prayer on the Green. The Spiral of Light is an Advent ritual that began in the Waldorf educational community to honor the presence of everlasting light in a dark world. With an unlit candle and in intentional silence participants walk through a spiral of evergreens toward a shimmering candle at the center. Pausing at the center\, they light their candle. Exiting\, they place their new light along the spiral. Come and remember the eternal light of peace in a broken yet hopeful world. Candles provided. \nDIRECTIONS for Walking the Spiral\nWalk the spiral of light alone or with your family and friends. Enter with an unlit candle provided at the entrance of the spiral. Meditatively walk toward the center. \nLight your candle from the eternal light at the center. Upon your exit\, place your lit candle anywhere along the spiral. Stay for as long as you wish.

SUMMARY:Special "Anonymous Coffeehouse on Location" in WRJ -- a Sunday Matinee January 7
DESCRIPTION:The Anonymous Coffeehouse is welcoming 2024 in grand style with a special\n“Anonymous on Location” show at the Briggs Opera House in White River\nJunction. Besides the new location\, this show will also be unique for us\nas it will be a Sunday matinee — on January 7. We’ll begin at 4 pm with\nthe central Vermont-based Americana band Still Hill. At 4:30 pm\, Halley\nNeal and her trio will take the stage. Currently based in Nashville\,\nHalley has been busy in the last two years wowing audiences at showcase\nsets at the top folk festivals in North America including Telluride\,\nKerrville\, Falcon Ridge\, and SolarFest (where she was named winner of the\nsinger-songwriter showcase). And at 5:30 pm\, we’ll close with Patrick\nRoss. Known to many folk fans in the upper valley\, Patrick is a composer\nand a master of multiple stringed instruments\, especially the fiddle. He\nhas performed at the Grand Ol’ Opry and at the Lincoln Center! \nAlso\, please join us before the Anonymous show for a special reception to\nhonor upper valley music videographers Chad Finer and Barbara Krinitz.\nThis is from 3-4 pm at Junction Arts and Media studios on Main St. in White\nRiver Junction\, right next door to the Briggs Opera House. \nIt’s all free as usual. And we’ll have Anonymous folk trivia and an\naudience member to lead us in “You Choose the Song”. Please join us and\nspread the word!!

SUMMARY:CLASSICOPIA presents a CHOPIN ZOOM Course
DESCRIPTION:Pianist and Artistic Director Daniel Weiser will be teaching a four-part\nZoom course on the life and music of Frederic Chopin on four consecutive\nWednesdays from Jan. 17 to Feb. 7 from 11:00 to 1:00.  He will perform many\nof the great piano works by Chopin—Ballades\, Noctunes\, Etudes\,\nPolonaises\, Preludes etc—and also talk about his short but very eventful\nlife.  He was friends with many musicians including Liszt and Schumann as\nwell as painters like Delacroix and writers like George Sand.  His deeply\nemotional and lyrical music still resonates today and his method of playing\nthe piano opened whole new worlds to future pianists to explore new shades\nof colors through pedaling\, phrasing\, and rubato. \nTo register for the course and find out more information\, please visit:\nhttps://classicopia.org/concert/frederic-chopin-2/.   If you have to miss\nany (or all) the classes\, Dr. Weiser can send recording links after each\nclass so that you can watch at your own convenience.
