SUMMARY:Masquerade Ball with Conniption Fits
DESCRIPTION:Masquerade Ball with The Conniption Fits at The Fireside Inn!\nIt’s that time of year again! The UV’s original Masquerade Ball with The Conniption Fits is back at The Fireside Inn!\nMarch 2nd\, 2024. Doors at 8pm\, show 9 to Midnight. \nDress to impress. The sprit of the Masquerade Ball is to dress up in elegant mystery. Some history of the Masquerade: They were generally elaborate dances held for members of the upper classes\, and were particularly popular in Venice. Masquerade balls were sometimes set as a game among the guests. The masked guests were supposedly dressed so as to be unidentifiable. This would create a type of game to see if a guest could determine each other’s identities. This added a humorous effect to many masquerades and enabled a more enjoyable version of typical balls. \nThe Conniption Fits wholeheartedly embrace the tradition of the Masquerade and encourage you to get as elaborate as you desire. Get ready for a great night of like-minded party goers. \nFor Tickets\, call 603-298-5900 \n$40 – (1) ticket only – no room\n$199 – Guest room package – (2) Tickets\, Overnight accommodations for (2)\, Breakfast for (2) \nLight Appetizers will be served\nMust be 21 and have a Valid Id

SUMMARY:SOLO AGING:  HOW TO PLAN FOR AGING WITHOUT A FAMILY CAREGIVER
DESCRIPTION:SOLO AGING:  HOW TO PLAN FOR AGING WITHOUT A FAMILY CAREGIVER\nCarol was a caregiver for both her parents:  Her mom had congestive heart failure and her dad had Parkinson’s disease.  After they died and she turned 63\, she said\, “It occurred to me … oh\, my goodness\, I am not married.  I do not have children. Who is going to do that for me?” \nResearch has found that approximately 25% of Americans 65 years old and above are aging alone without a spouse\, adult children or relatives to rely on for assistance and company during senior years.  The majority of them are women. \nThis can be frightening to think about!  So we start planning!  We find the support of like-minded people; we think creatively; we develop a social network; and we get the paperwork in order! \nJoin us for a discussion of the personal and legal considerations involved in aging as a solo senior – and how to begin planning for tomorrow-today! \nSolo Aging Seminar led by Renee Harvey\, Esq.\, Caldwell Law\nAt Upper Valley Senior Center\, 10 Campbell Street\, Lebanon\, NH  03766 .\nThursday\, March 7\, 9:30-11:30 am\nPLEASE CONTACT BECKY FOSTER\, AT 603-448-4897\, EXT. 120\, OR BFOSTER@GCSCC.ORG TO MAKE A RESERVATION.

DESCRIPTION:Ramadan Kareem to all our Muslim brothers and sisters!\nWishing you generous blessings during this holy month\nFor those who wish to know more about this spiritually full month: Ramadan is considered one of the holiest months of the year for Muslims. In Ramadan\, Muslims commemorate the revelation of the Qur’an\, and fast from food and drink during the sunlit hours as a means of drawing closer to God and cultivating self-control\, gratitude\, and compassion for those less fortunate. Ramadan is a month of intense spiritual rejuvenation with a heightened focus on devotion\, during which Muslims spend extra time reading the Qur’an and performing special prayers.  \nMore from ING\, Educating for Cultural Literacy and Mutual Respect

SUMMARY:CANCELED - Hyannis Sound A Cappella Concert
DESCRIPTION:The much anticipated Spring Alumni Tour is Canceled by the snow storm.\nAfter a 5-year hiatus (COVID ripple effects) the Hyannis Sound a cappella group will be returning to Lyme on Sunday March 24th for a 2pm concert at the Congregational Church\, as part of their spring Alumni tour.\n\nThe Hyannis Sound is a college a cappella “super group”: 10 college-aged young men whose summer job is singing weekly concerts at multiple venues on Cape Cod.  During their Upper Valley spring tour the current group is often joined by alumni from earlier years; former Lyme resident Marc Whittington sang in the group back in the day!\n\n$10 for adults and children by donations.  The Hanover High School a cappella group Dachords will be singing that afternoon as an opening act.\n\nThey always put on a good show: tight harmonies\, soaring solos\, and a high energy performance — a musical antidote to the mud-season blahs!\nLyme Congregational Church

SUMMARY:Thetford's Non-Fiction Book Group
DESCRIPTION:The next meeting of Thetford’s informal nonfiction book discussion group will take place at Latham Library on Thetford Hill on Tuesday March 26th at 7 pm.   Please note:  The group will meet at theoriginal time of 7 pm and there will be no Zoom. \n\nWe will be discussing Team of Rivals by Doris Kearns Goodwin.\n\n\n\n\nOn May 18\, 1860\, William H. Seward\, Salmon P. Chase\, Edward Bates\, and Abraham Lincoln waited in their hometowns for the results from the Republican National Convention in Chicago. When Lincoln emerged as the victor\, his rivals were dismayed and angry. \nThroughout the turbulent 1850s\, each had energetically sought the presidency as the conflict over slavery was leading inexorably to secession and civil war. That Lincoln succeeded was the result of a character that had been forged by life experiences that raised him above his more privileged and accomplished rivals. He won because he possessed an extraordinary ability to put himself in the place of other men\, to experience what they were feeling\, to understand their motives and desires. \nThis capacity enabled President Lincoln to bring his disgruntled opponents together\, create the most unusual cabinet in history\, and marshal their talents to preserve the Union and win the war. \n\n\n\nThe book may be obtained from your local library\, via interlibrary loan\,  possibly as an audio or e-book via ListenUp Vermont or in New Hampshire\,  New Hampshire Downloadable Books. Users need only get a barcode number from their local library to use the services.  Or you can obtain the book from your favorite local bookseller\, or via www.bookfinder.com\, the aggregator site for booksellers both large and small from all over the world\, and for books both new and secondhand.\n\nAll are welcome and we look forward to seeing you.
